Box office record of 642.6 billion yuan for Chinese film screening in 2019

According to data released by theNational Film Administration on the evening of December 31, the total boxoffice of Chinese movies in 2019 was 64.266 billion yuan, a year-on-yearincrease of 5.4%. The total box office of domestic movies was 41.175 billionyuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.65% and a market share of 64.07%. 1.727billion people watch movies in urban cinemas. In 2019, 9708 new screenswill be added, bringing the total number of screens in the country to 69787.

A total of 850 feature films, 51 cartoons, 74 science and education films, 47documentaries and 15 feature films were produced throughout the year, totaling1,037. Of the 10 films with the highest box office income this year, 8 aredomestic movies. There were 88 movies with more than 100 million yuan atthe box office, including 47 domestic movies.
